HAND-WOVEN IN TAIWAN
Handmade small rainbow color macramé diamond shape drop earring. “Patala” means Rainbow in Pinuyumayan, a branch of the Austronesian languages spoken by the Puyuma Indigenous tribe from the island of Taiwan.
With 28 known indigenous tribes living in the island of Taiwan, 17 tribes were officially recognized by the current Taiwan government. Most tribes share a common ancestry with the Austronesian ethnicities originated from the Pacific islands, and shares similar belief that rainbow is the bridge between ancestor spirits and earth, representing a complex emotions of hope and peace.
ARTIST
Known as “Summeryala”, the Puyuma artist makes macramé weaving and sewing art inspired from her tribal roots. Her marriage with a Paiwan tribe partner inspired her to combine different ethnic artforms in her work, including Taiwan’s hippie and reggae culture style. Summeryala brand is all about creating innovation, and design freely without repeat the same design twice. She represents the Katratripulr Puyuma tribe living in Taitung city, located along the southeast coast of Taiwan.
