HAND-CRAFTED IN TAIWAN

Handmade pastel rainbow yarn wrapped thick hoop pompom earrings. “Alju” means Sweets in Pinayuanan, one of the Austronesian languages spoken by the Paiwan Indigenous people from the island of Taiwan.

There are around 28 known indigenous tribes living in the island of Taiwan, and 17 tribes were officially recognized by the current Taiwan government. Most tribes share a common ancestry with the Austronesian ethnicities originated from the Pacific islands. The tribes often applies symbols like the sun and the rainbow in stories and myth to represent different emotions of hope and victories.

ARTIST

Known as “Qilai x Muakai”, the artist likes to use bright color that pops and contrast, creating fun and funky personalities for those who want to stand out from the average crowds. She is known to never recreate the same earrings twice, and draws random inspiration for her work with quirky asymmetrical style. Every product is crafted with a unique personality.

Some of her most popular creations are headbands, earrings, and key chains. Muakai represents the indigenous Paiwan tribe living in Pingtung, southeast of Taiwan.
